Cronulla MP, Malcolm Kerr  has slammed the Iemma Government for continuing delays to the new Cronulla Police station.

“The current facilities at Cronulla are nothing short of deplorable and have been for many years,” Mr Kerr said.

“In 2004, an independent study identified Cronulla as one of the highest priorities for replacement or refurbishment, yet there is no funding in this year’s budget for a new building.

“Yesterday’s budget clearly shows the disdain the Iemma Government has for both police working at Cronulla and the community. 

“Officers at Cronulla are still putting up with cramped and ageing facilities, while this tired old Government wastes $2 billion on the neighbouring desalination plant.

“It is essential that Cronulla, being the only  beachside area on a train line, has a strong police presence to crack down on criminal activity and vandalism “

“Never was this so strongly demonstrated than during the Cronulla riots”

“I am frustrated and annoyed that any project earmarked for the people of the Cronulla electorate is always delayed.

”It’s time this pathetic Labor Government drops the ‘PR spin’ and starts investing properly in our officers and public safety” Mr Kerr concluded.
