KERR CONGRATULATES LOCAL SCHOOLS Print E-mail

Cronulla MP, Malcolm Kerr congratulated Cronulla electorate public schools on their performance as revealed on the My School website commenced this week.

The My School website provides detailed information about all the schools in Australia.  It uses a new index of student and school characteristics, developed specifically for the purpose of identifying schools serving similar student populations.  This enables schools’ results on national tests to be understood in a fair and meaningful way, and enables schools seeking to improve their performance to learn from other schools with statistically similar populations.

National Assessment Program – Literacy and numeracy (NAPLAN) results are displayed for each school and comparisons with average scores for statistically similar schools and all Australian schools.

Mr Kerr said he was delighted to see the recognition of the results of so many schools and said this was a great reflection on teaching staff and parental support.

Mr Kerr said that the one thing that wasn’t measured on the charts was the happiness and community spirit that abounds in local public schools.

“Our children are fortunate to learn in a supportive and happy educational setting which is a wonderful environment for formal learning” Mr Kerr said.

“This caring, friendliness and respect is evident in every electorate school I visit”

“If Shire public schools were rated on these qualities as well as traditional learning they would be the leading public schools in Australia” Mr Kerr concluded.
