REES, GIVE SHIRE SCHOOLS THEIR MONEY BACK! Print E-mail

Cronulla MP, Malcolm Kerr demanded Premier Rees give schools in the Sutherland Shire back their student disability funding.

This follows a recent Freedom of Information request by the NSW Liberal/Nationals that revealed the Rees Government’s intention to slash disabilities funding for students by taking back almost $12 million in unspent funds from schools under the Funding Support (Students with Disabilities) program.

The decision would mean schools in the Shire would have less money to educate disabled students and children with special needs.

“Cutting $12 million from children with disabilities is a despicable act by an out-of-touch government,” Mr Kerr said.

“The latest decision by the incompetent Rees Government will see the following Shire schools lose nearly $220 000 in student disability funding:

“The Rees Labor government has cut this money to children with disabilities to make up for their looming budget black hole”.

“Premier Rees needs to give this money back to schools so that they can give children with disabilities and their parents the support they need”

“Just because a school hasn’t spent their funding this year doesn’t mean that sadly it won’t be needed next year”

“The Rees government is willing to spend $1 billion to improve acoustics at the Opera House, but will let children with disabilities in our public schools go without.
