Cronulla MP, Malcolm Kerr today firmly opposed to the decision that the TAB open on Good Friday.
Although the TAB is legally entitled to operate on holidays, the decision to open on Good Friday was a slight on a traditional sacrosanct day. “There are certain days of the year that should remain racing-free and Good Friday is one of them” Mr Kerr said. “For many people, Good Friday represents a day when they can spend quality time with their families, friends and loved ones and reflect on the true meaning of Good Friday” On Good Friday, there will be no Australian racing in NSW as it is not permitted under the Racing Administration Act. As a result punters will only be able to gamble on foreign fields, not Australian races. The NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition will continue to observe racing free Good Friday and Christmas Day as the most important days on Australia’s Christian calendar that are traditionally free of racing. |
